In today's rapidly evolving communication landscape, my teaching philosophy centers on fostering a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for the challenges of our digital age. Successful education, I believe, is not merely about imparting new information, but helping each student build a robust foundation of skills and insights that are applicable to their lives outside the classroom. As C.S. Lewis astutely observed, people often do not want to be taught so much as they want to remember. This idea shapes my approach to education as a journey of discovery and connection.

I want my classrooms to be a vibrant communication ecosystem where students engage with new concepts, connecting them to real-word scenarios and their peer’s diverse perspectives.  Just as social media platforms create interconnected networks, I strive to foster connections between concepts, students, and the broader communication world. Beyond lectures, group projects and peer-learning activities allow students to experience the practical relevance of new information. These collaborative experiences often spark moments of recognition, where students realize they are not learning something entirely new, but rather remembering and refining ideas they have encountered in their lives.

Drawing from my academic and industry background, I bridge the gap between theory and practice by teaching new concepts and helping students recognize how these ideas relate to their current and future experiences. My lectures infuse real-world case studies and challenges, encouraging students to apply their knowledge to practical scenarios, helping to deepen their understanding and prepare them for the realities of professional communication.

However, communication does not exist in a vacuum. I emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary thinking by encouraging students to draw connections between communication and other fields like psychology, sociology, and data science so they can develop a holistic understanding of communication's role in various contexts. In today's world, communicators need to be versatile—"communication chameleons" who can adapt their skills across various channels and contexts. Through diverse assignments ranging from social media strategies to persuasive speeches to creative conflict resolution, I aim to help students prepare to thrive in diverse communication environments.

Assessment in my courses goes beyond traditional testing methods. I incorporate project-based evaluations, peer reviews, and reflective portfolios to see student growth and achievement more comprehensively. This holistic approach gives a much richer picture of each student's growth and helps them develop the self-assessment skills they will need throughout their careers. Importantly, it also allows students to recognize and articulate the knowledge they've gained through experience, rather than just memorizing new information.

At the core, my teaching philosophy is centered on creating experiential, active, and relevant learning experiences that prepare students for the complexities of the modern, fluid communication landscape. By blending technology, fostering critical and ethical thinking, and emphasizing real-world applications, my goal is to empower the next generation of communication professionals to navigate and shape our field's future.
